Kitchen Countertop Trends in 2022

There are a few kitchen countertop trends that are popular right now. The first is using natural materials such as granite, marble, or quartz. The second is using reclaimed wood or other sustainable materials. The third is using color, such as painting the countertops a bright color or using a stained concrete look.

This is one of several important findings from a countrywide poll of kitchen dealers and designers conducted by Kitchen & Bath Design News, which notes that countertops—mostly influenced by the COVID-19 epidemic—have increasingly become the center focus of the modern-day kitchen, serving not only in their traditional roles of food prep, eating, cleanup, and entertaining, but also as a multi-purpose space for homework, hobbies, work-from-home projects, and various other activities.

Despite the bewildering assortment of colors, materials, features, and other options available, the KBDN poll discovered that kitchen consumers are very specific when it comes to the factors they evaluate when picking their countertops.

Material, color, durability, affordability, and sustainability are major variables in countertop choices, according to the conclusions of a survey conducted last month. According to dealers and designers, sanitary benefits are becoming increasingly significant.

Similarly, cost is a consideration in homeowners' countertop material choices, albeit it appears that clients are more willing to invest – and even stretch their budget – in order to acquire the material, functionality, and overall aesthetic they prefer.

What are the best countertops for kitchens?

The best countertops for kitchens are those that are easy to clean and durable. Laminate countertops are a good option because they are affordable and come in a variety of colors and styles. Quartz countertops are also a good choice because they are non-porous and resist staining, making them easy to clean.

There is no definitive answer to this question as different countertops work better in different kitchens. However, some of the most popular kitchen countertops include granite, marble, quartz, and laminate. Ultimately, the best countertop for your kitchen will depend on your budget and your personal preferences.

What material is used for quartz?

According to the KBDN survey, engineered quartz countertops are considered the countertop that is gaining the quickest in demand by nearly 33% of those polled.

In comparison, quartzite—natural sandstone fused under heat and pressure with sparkly quartz crystals—is viewed as the fastest-growing kitchen countertop material by approximately 17% of survey respondents, while granite is viewed as the fastest-growing by slightly more than 9% of the design professionals polled.

Other countertop options include solid surface (7%), marble (5%), sintered stone (4.6%), and concrete (3.3%). Outside-friendly surfaces are also growing in popularity, as is the expanding trend toward outdoor living.

According to survey respondents, the most popular colors in demand are white and cream (45 percent) and gray (24.4 percent). About 12.6 percent of the designers' clientele prefer black. Customers favor shiny and matte surfaces almost equally, according to design professionals polled.

Countertops with delicate patterns and movement are increasingly appealing to clients, according to dealers and designers, as compared to other options. According to the KBDN survey, 62.5 percent of the dealers and designers asked said that clients preferred countertops with delicate patterns.

In comparison, only 18.8 percent of respondents said their clients prefer marble-look surfaces, 12.5 percent prefer dramatic patterns or movement, and 6.3 percent prefer solid-color tops.

What are the key criteria for quartz?

The importance of choosing countertops with particular sanitary/health benefits appears to be growing among clients.

According to a poll of dealers and designers, 55 percent of their customers consider sanitary characteristics like easy-cleaning and anti-microbial protection
In comparison, survey respondents say that just roughly 20% of their consumers consider hygienic benefits.

Durability is still an essential element in countertop material selection, with around 55% of surveyed dealers and designers stating it is "very important" to clients, and roughly 37% saying it is "very important." In comparison, only roughly 1.3 percent of clients consider countertop durability to be "not at all" important.

As previously stated, affordability plays a lesser role in countertop choice.

Other significant survey findings were as follows:

According to the poll findings, regardless of material choice, kitchen clients choose neutral countertops that integrate smoothly with the entire kitchen style over bold countertops with "wow" appeal. Dealers and designers told KBDN that roughly three-quarters of their clients choose neutral tones over flashy tops.

According to dealers and designers, only around half of today's kitchen clients consider environmental friendliness when choosing countertop materials.

Priority Countertops for Kitchens

Palo Alto, California —A major new study has discovered that homeowners are prioritizing huge, multi-functional countertops in their kitchen remodeling budgets, in part as a response to the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on American lifestyles.

According to the 2022 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study, more than one-third of polled homeowners (35 percent) reportedly "splurged" on countertops, which were updated by more than nine out of ten homeowners and were the most commonly enhanced component during kitchen renovations.

Despite rising labor, product, and material prices, it's obvious that homeowners are ready to spend a little more to obtain exactly what they want in countertops that are both attractive and functional.

When it comes to new kitchen countertops, homeowners prioritize the appearance and feel, durability, and ease of cleaning over cost, according to Houzz, whose online poll was conducted among over 2,400 U.S. Houzz users who are in the midst of planning or have already completed a kitchen renovation.

According to Houzz, despite tariff and pandemic-induced price increases, engineered quartz and granite are the most popular countertop materials (42 percent and 24 percent, respectively).

More than one-third of remodelling homeowners who choose an island countertop material that contrasts with their major worktops choose butcher block or wood slab. In terms of aesthetics, homeowners are increasingly opting for white countertops during renovations.

Among the survey's other findings:

Following a kitchen remodel, one in every five homeowners reports that work is their favorite pastime on their island, a 4% increase from 2021. Homeowners are creating room for this activity, with nearly two out of every five islands reaching more than 7 feet in length, a five-point increase from last year.

Homeowners are also brightening up their living spaces, with the great majority putting new light bulbs above islands (92 percent).

As for white and gray, they predominate as top colors. White remains the most popular color for kitchen cabinets, backsplashes, and walls. Gray is the most popular white substitute, with 27 percent of homeowners repainting kitchen walls gray, 13 percent installing gray flooring, and 11 percent installing a gray backsplash.

Appliances Benefit from High-Tech Features: Appliances are the second most popular component that homeowners splurge on during kitchen remodeling (27 percent).Over a third of improved appliances had high-tech capabilities, a six-point increase from the previous year. Wireless and smartphone controls are the most desirable kitchen appliance features (up eight percentage points from 2021).

There are numerous beverage refrigerators: almost one-fifth of homeowners are including beverage coolers in their renovated kitchens, and 14% are including wine refrigerators.

Homeowners Seen Looking for 'Everything You Can Think Of

Chicago — When it comes to selecting materials, styles, and colors for kitchen countertops, homeowners appear to be casting a wide net and readily spending.

That was the consensus of a nationwide survey of kitchen design professionals conducted by Kitchen & Bath Design News last month.

Everything depends on the project, the client, who lives in the house, and what their specific wants and aspirations are.

According to dealers and designers, clients are willing to spend a larger percentage of their kitchen remodeling budget on countertops than they had planned, as long as the selected countertops suit their practical needs and enhance the overall design.

Among the various dealer/designer comments relayed to KBDN were the following:

We're seeing countertops that stand out against the cabinetry yet are either solid or discreetly patterned to withstand the test of time ". If a "wow" effect is wanted, the backsplash is the place to go.

I notice a developing trend in quartz with a marble look toward warmer colors-caramels, browns, red plums (yay!). We need to replace cold gray and very cold white with gray. My clients are sick of it, or they're frightened. I'll tell them that's what they "have" to do.

We sell around half quartz for delicate designs and half granite for strong patterns. However, demand for more expensive materials (such as quartzite) and exotic materials has recently increased (such as dolomite). Both of these items assist the customer in making a more personal message.

People are mixing counters, but white and light-colored marble appearances with darker brown or gray veining all appear to be appealing. In addition, while some clients like thick edges, the majority prefer narrow (3 cm).
